What we're doing when no one is looking

Most people know us from ribbon cuttings, community events, and friendly gatherings. We love those moments, but they're only part of the story.

Every week, we're amplifying our members on social media. Whether it's a new product launch, a big milestone, or an upcoming event, we share it. Over the last 90 days, our Facebook page alone generated more than 750,000 views. That's 750,000 chances for someone to discover a local business, click through to a member's page, or walk through a door.

When we're out in the community, conversations about local businesses happen constantly, and our members are the first names we mention. Residents, visitors, and potential customers reach out to us regularly looking for recommendations, and we point them toward our membership every time. It's a quiet referral engine that runs continuously.

We also collaborate with area organizations on events that go beyond the chamber walls. Partnering with Go Ottawa on events like the Christmas parade and downtown tree lighting is a reminder that we're part of a bigger story for this village. Bringing a little joy in the coldest months of the year—that's something we don't take for granted. We work closely with the local chambers to host joint events and provide educational opportunities. We also work closely with the PCCIC to bring about more educational opportunities and the like. Being a team player in the community is advantageous not just for the chamber but also for our membership.

We keep a close eye on the legislative landscape, too, at both the state and local levels, watching for anything that could affect small and large businesses alike. When we have concerns, we bring them to our federal, state, and local representatives. Being part of the conversation, not just reacting to it, matters.

Our Board of Directors is actively involved in planning and executing events, and we're always looking for ways to improve. There's rarely a shortage of ideas; the challenge is fitting them into an already full calendar.

Most of this work never makes the highlight reel. But that's where relationships are built, and opportunities take shape.

Our office door is always open, so feel free to stop in and visit. If you have an idea you'd like to see implemented at the chamber, share it with us, and we'll do our best to make it work.
