10 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Chamber Membership

One of the questions I hear most often from new members is:

"How do I get the most out of my Chamber membership?"

It's a great question, and the answer is actually pretty simple.

The members who receive the greatest value aren't necessarily the ones who attend every event or sponsor every program. They're the ones who stay engaged, build relationships, and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Here are ten simple ways to maximize your Chamber membership.

1. Complete Your Member Profile

Your online member profile is often the first impression people have of your business.

Make sure your logo, business description, contact information, website, and social media links are up to date. Think of it as your digital storefront within the Chamber.

2. Attend Events Regularly

You don't have to attend every event, but consistency matters.

Whether it's a monthly luncheon, Coffee & Connections, Business After Hours, Lunch & Learn, or one of our annual events, every event is an opportunity to meet someone new, learn something valuable, or strengthen an existing relationship.

3. Introduce Yourself

Don't wait for people to come to you.

Introduce yourself, ask questions, and get to know other members. The Chamber is built on relationships, and some of the best business opportunities begin with a simple conversation.

4. Tell Us What's Happening in Your Business

Did you hire a new employee?

Celebrate an anniversary?

Win an award?

Launch a new product?

Move to a new location?

We love celebrating our members, but we can only share what we know. Keep us updated so we can help spread the word.

5. Take Advantage of Marketing Opportunities

Your membership includes more than event invitations.

Submit events to our community calendar, share job openings, take advantage of sponsorship opportunities, participate in Chamber campaigns, and tag us on social media. Every opportunity helps increase your visibility.

6. Get Involved

Volunteering is one of the quickest ways to build meaningful relationships.

Serving on a committee, helping with an event, or participating in a Chamber initiative gives you the chance to work alongside other business leaders while making a positive impact on our community.

7. Use Your Chamber Team

One of the greatest benefits of membership is having people in your corner.

Need help making a connection? Looking for a resource? Wondering how to promote your business? Reach out to us. If we don't have the answer, we'll do our best to connect you with someone who does.

8. Support Fellow Members

One of the strongest ways to build a thriving business community is to support one another.

Whenever possible, shop local, attend ribbon cuttings, share another member's social media posts, recommend fellow members, and celebrate their successes. A strong Chamber is built by businesses supporting businesses.

9. Be Patient and Stay Engaged

Relationships take time.

You may not see results after attending one event, but over time, you'll become a familiar face, build trust, and develop connections that can lead to new opportunities.

Consistency often creates the greatest return.

10. Ask Questions

Your Chamber membership isn't a one-size-fits-all experience.

Every business has different goals, challenges, and opportunities.

If you're unsure how to make your membership work for you, ask.

We're here to help you identify opportunities, connect with the right people, and make sure you're getting the most value from your investment.

Your Membership Is What You Make It

Think of your Chamber membership as a toolbox.

Inside are opportunities to build relationships, increase your visibility, promote your business, learn from others, and become part of a community that wants to see you succeed.

The more tools you use, the more value you'll receive.

Our job is to create those opportunities.

Your job is simply to take advantage of them.

Together, we can build a stronger business community—one connection at a time.

Take Action This Week

You don't have to do all ten things at once. In fact, one small step can make a big difference.

This week, choose one action:

☐ Update your Chamber member profile with your latest information. Just review your member profile on our website and call us or email us with any changes.

☐ Register for an upcoming Chamber event and introduce yourself to someone new.

☐ Send us a recent accomplishment, event, promotion, or business update so we can help celebrate and share your news.

☐ Visit another Chamber member's business and introduce yourself.

☐ Reach out to Rosemary or Kelly and ask, "What's one benefit of my membership I haven't used yet?"

Every connection starts with a single step.

We're here to help you make the most of your membership, and we'd love to help you discover new ways to grow your business through the Ottawa Area Chamber.

See you soon at an upcoming Chamber event!
